Biography

story

A multi-faceted Human Soul-Being; Musician, Creator, Performer, and Artivist, born and raised in Al-Quds (Jerusalem) in 1996.
Jalal, aka. Jah-Layal is of Palestinian heritage, with both parents hailing from the Old City and Lifta.

Discovering his artistic passion early on during painting lessons at the age of 10, he obtained his first classical guitar a year later.
Jalal’s intimate and sacred connection with nature, people, and the arts has widened his passions, thus becoming a multi-disciplinary artist.
Yet, Jalal chooses Music and Sound, MoveMeant, and Performance to be his primary mediums, due to his firm belief in their healing and liberating powers.

Mission

Jalal Akel Jr. utilizes his diverse skills to express and document the narratives and struggles of himself and his people. As a sound artist, he is continuously exploring the relation between humans and the surrounding environment.

Jalal is confident in the importance of humans’ connection to their land and raises ecological awareness through his craft of sound and music.
Nevertheless, while shedding light on the complex beauty of human nature and their relations, Jalal’s mission is to create a container for Music and Sound to unite people, while channelling love, medicine, and truth.

Vision

Jalal envisions music as a bridge between the personal and the universal. In his album ORIGIN, he intertwines intimate stories of daily and ancestral life with the cosmic bond between humanity and nature.

Through his art, Layal elevates the Palestinian narrative on both micro and macro scales, fostering connection and empathy across the tangible and intangible, transcending cultural and geographic boundaries.
